A June Wedding
The infamous Michigan weather pattern is less than predictable. Late May and early June outdoor weddings are well...risky, but the faith in Mother Nature this bride had paid off.
Diane better known as Dilly (we'll save that story for another post!), holds high expectations of herself yet walks to the beat of her own drum. Her professionalism was something that brought us together, but it was her sense of humor and outlook on life that strengthened our friendship. Our likenesses are daringly similar, so when asked to help design her wedding invitation suite and programs I was up for the challenge.
Discussing her inspiration for the project, she was all in on trusting my direction - rare but treasured words when working in the wedding industry. An outdoor ceremony and reception with casual attire suggested, brilliant views of Lake Michigan and a food truck, I knew this laid back couple would be in for a treat with the invitation suite I was envisioning. She sent a few pictures of her "inspiration" collection and I was off to the trending vibrant florals and soft watercolor mimicking the flair of vintage and coral color scheme dipping into hints of baby blues - and maybe a little green for Zak's sake. All layered on an off-white watercolor texture.
Tip: Printing on actual watercolor paper is not ideal. While the tangible texture feels good on the finger tips the dimples absorb and spread ink making your words and images skewed. To add the depth your looking for try using high resolution images instead!
The whole suite followed a whimsical tone with calligraphy styled font and tall ridge type. The RSVP title was hand lettered relieving itself from the watercolor background. To offset the cost white envelopes were used with a wrap around label encasing the invitation, direction & details, rsvp card & envelope, wedding registry card, and the wedding's official hashtag for photo sharing.
The program followed the same design elements, folding out to include a schedule of events, the bride and grooms story, entire wedding party and a special note on the back to their parents, grandparents, friends & family and the ones who were with them in spirit on their special day.
The wedding was gorgeous, the day turned out to be beautiful and now the couple is blissfully married with lovely invites to remind them of the happiness June 6th brought. Special congrats to Dilly & Zak, it was a pleasure helping you through the invitation process and being apart of your big day!
